A Message from Our Principal

Dear SRA Community,

Fall is certainly coming as evidenced by these cooler mornings lately! Please make sure that you send your child to school in appropriate outerwear for the lowest point of the weather that day. This includes hats, gloves, warm coats, and, eventually, snow pants and boots. It can get windy on our playground and it is important that students come prepared for that each day. As long as the wind chill does not dip below zero, all students will be going out-side to play. It may be hard to believe but those days are coming!

We have been busy participating in testing – DIBELS and TerraNova have taken place these last few weeks, with the new state assessment WY-TOPP coming soon for students in grades 3 through 8. The teachers and I look for-ward to sharing these baseline results with you at Parent-Teacher conferences on October 25 and 26 as well as discussing your student’s progress thus far. Please make sure that you schedule a time with your child’s teacher. For middle school parents, you must attend at least one conference with a core academic teacher each fall and are encouraged to sign up for as many as you wish. This is a great time for you to get a better handle on what your child is learning as well as what their strengths and weaknesses may be. There will be no school for students on Thursday the 26 and Friday the 27 so that teachers can participate in conferences.

As a reminder, please do not send your child to school with toys, trading cards, fidget spinners, etc. These items are very distracting to students and detract from their academic environment and social interactions. SRA works hard to ensure that there are plenty of activities and things to play with during indoor recess, afterschool program, and at other appropriate times throughout the day. Thank you for your help and support in this area.

I look forward to seeing all of you at Parent-Teacher conferences!
